Thousand Islands Lake Resort

Thousand Islands Lake Resort

This beautiful 20 mile by 7 mile lake in northern China was created when the former Mountain region was flooded, developing endless steep little islands out of the ragged mountaintops. This Project required extreme sensitivity to the natural environment, and great care in the interface with the natural landscape and coastal shoreline. Every day, thousands of tour boat passengers currently enjoy sightseeing in the beauty of this remarkable region. A series of lakeside ‘Ports’ was proposed to provide multiple interfaces with the waters edge. From a simple overhead map view, the lake appears similar to the Mediterranean Sea. This theme was expanded and layered onto the resort program. Each Port presents the character of a different country. Together they reflect the attributes of Italy, Spain, Greece, and the Aegean region. The distinct cultures are celebrated throughout the building designs, theming, and entertainment.
